The CBCST offers free community presentations, school crisis services, as well as professional educational trainings through our Grief Education Institute. Continuing education credits are available to healthcare professionals and clergy. The fee schedule for crisis intervention varies.
Tours and Presentations
- Tours of the Heart: Join us for a tour of the CBCST at 11:00am on the first Friday of each month. Come by yourself or bring a friend, either way, embrace this opportunity to experience our facility along with learning more about our services and supporting our mission.
- FREE Community Presentations: a 15-60 minute presentation about CBCST’s services, along with basic information about children and grief. Presentation to be held at your location.

School Crisis Services
The loss of a loved one or a tragedy in the community can affect not only a child’s health but their performance in school, as well as their ability to manage healthy relationships. Our staff is available to assist your organization in the event of a crisis, including the sudden or anticipated death of a student, student’s family member or faculty member.
In collaboration with the American Red Cross and various San Antonio area nonprofit organizations, the Children’s Bereavement Center has created a community disaster response team of mental health specialists, ready to respond to a disaster in the San Antonio area. The Kids Corps team is composed of licensed mental health professionals and individuals with a background in child development or education. To volunteer for Kids Corps, contact the Executive Director of the Center at (210) 736-4847, regarding training requirements.
Grief Education Institute (GEI)
The Institute offers healthcare professionals, educators and clergy the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills that will strengthen their ability to assist children and families grieving the loss of a loved one. The Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas’ philosophy is that each person’s journey through grief is unique and that no child should have to walk through this painful process alone. Program Enhancement Consultation
The Grief Education Institute of the Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas offers consultation opportunities to enhance trainings that are currently in place or in the planning phase at your organization. Center staff will work with your organization to incorporate our model of healing through expressive arts and bereavement counseling. A fee based schedule allows on site and telephone consultations.
