Internships - Children's Bereavement Center of South Texas

The Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas offers a distinctive clinical environment for counseling graduate students through our internship program. This program allows student counselors to gain hands-on experience working with children while developing critical knowledge and communication skills under professional guidance. If you are passionate about supporting children and their families, we invite you to apply for one of our internship positions.

Each semester, we receive numerous applications from students eager to learn about grief counseling and to work with the families we serve. We are deeply appreciative of the interest shown by so many aspiring counselors. However, our internship program is highly competitive, and applying does not guarantee a placement.

Internship Program Commitment & Application Cycle
Our Internship program requires a minimum commitment of two consecutive semesters. Applicants must be available for one of the following semester pairings:

Spring & Summer
Summer & Fall
Fall & Spring

Applications for Fall 2025 internships are closed. To apply for our next application cycle Spring/Summer 2026 cohort, please submit your application and all required documents beginning December 22, 2025. The deadline to apply is January 12, 2026. Once we have reviewed your application and required documentation, we will contact you to begin the interview process.

Please note that our internship opportunities are exclusively available to students who are currently enrolled in Master’s-level counseling programs and are on the path to becoming licensed professional counselors. Eligible applications must also be enrolled at a local university within San Antonio or Bexar County and attending in-person or hybrid classes as part of their academic program. Students enrolled exclusively in online universities are not eligible at this time.
