The CBCST is committed to educating the community at large on matters related to children and grief. We offer an array of professional trainings that have been given at the regional, state, national and international levels and we have the ability to provide continuing education credits to social workers and licensed professional counselors. CBCST staff will provide guidance to agencies that support the family system, including schools, hospitals, hospices, funeral homes and other organizations. Parenting thru Grief
Would you like to know more about how your child understands the death of a loved one and what the grief process looks like for a child? During this presentation, we will discuss the physiological, emotional, behavioral, and spiritual impacts of grief in children. We will also explore how children understand death and how it relates to a child’s stage of development. You are invited to attend this workshop at The Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas.

Understanding Childhood Grief, Trauma & Crisis
This is a 2 hour training designed to educate and prepare mental health professionals for work with children and adults experiencing trauma and grief.The training will include: (1) Understanding the impact of trauma and grief as it relates to the stages of human development; (2) Recognizing indicators of trauma and traumatic grief in children and adults; (3) Understanding the physiological and neurobiological manifestations of trauma; (4) Strategies for age appropriate intervention. This is a 2 hour training designed to educate and prepare hospice staff for work with children and families who are grieving. The training will include strategies for enhancing family communication, tools for talking with children about death and dying, and assistance in developing short and long term interventions for grieving children. The training will include: (1) Understanding a child’s perception of death as it relates to the stages of development; (2) Recognizing indicators of complicated or traumatic grief in children; (3) Understanding the physiological manifestations of grief and its impact on children; and (4) Strategies for enhancing family communication around matters of dying and bereavement.
