Honoring through SandTray Process: Experiencing a Deeper Sense of Self

Honoring through SandTray Process: Experiencing a Deeper Sense of Self
Presented by: Melissa Dilworth, MA, LPC-AT-S, RPT -S, and Vicki Williams-Patterson, MCAT, LPC-AT

Located at: Say Si (1518 South Alamo Street, SA, TX 78204)

Friday, September 13th
1:00pm – 4:00pm

1: participants will be introduced the history of sandtray
2: participants will understand the steps towards certification as a Texas Sandtray Therapist
3: Participants will engage in experiential learning exercises as both a builder and a witness within the therapeutic process of sandtray therapy.

In this workshop, you will directly experience one of the unique aspects of SandTray process: the silent witness. SandTray, as envisioned by *Theresa Kestly, is an experiential clinical modality that leads the builder (client) to make a “world” in a sand-filled tray, using a wide variety of miniature objects. While the builder is working on his or her world, the therapist/witness maintains a silent and highly attuned focus on the client.

Your experience will include both being a builder and a witness. We are encouraging you to focus on the concept of honoring, both while you build a world and while you are being a witness for a fellow participant. The process of honoring encompasses a wide variety of words: admiration, celebration, and praise. The subject receiving honor can be ennobled and magnified, often becoming perceived as valuable or even as sacred rather than mundane. This can be an internal or external process, resulting in a shift towards a deeper sense of self and/or a more focused sense of meaning.

Your workshop leaders are Melissa Dilworth, MA, LPC-AT-S, RPT -S, and Vicki Williams-Patterson, MCAT, LPC-AT. They are both Certified SandTray Therapist Trainers who received their training from Karen Burke, LPC-S, RPT-S, CCST. Karen was trained by Theresa Kestly of the Sandtray Training Institute of New Mexico. We hope that you will be as captivated by this powerful clinical modality as we are. Words can often fail us as we face the overwhelming challenges in our clients’ lives. SandTray allows the complex expression of real life issues and embodies creative action within our clients. We believe passionately in the value of SandTray process, and we are deeply dedicated to encouraging its use throughout the Mental Health field.
