Kim Fryar, MS, M.Ed, CCLS, NCC presents a two hour presentation on “Recognizing and Reducing Anxiety in Children and Teens.” This presentation is designed for professionals interested in adding to their knowledge and skills for helping children and teens cope with stress and anxiety. The focus will be on identifying anxiety, and reducing anxiety through internal and external coping skills.
1. Describe the differences between fear, anxiety and stress and focus on the contributing factors and physiological responses to anxiety
2. Identify inner resources available to children and teens that can reduce anxiety and increase healthy coping including progressive muscle relaxation, guided imagery, controlled breathing and mindfulness
3. Explore external resources that can be implemented and individualized with children and teens to reduce anxiety and increase healthy coping
4. Present specific activity ideas to utilize with children and teens and provide interactive opportunities and examples for learning
