Chief Development Officer
The Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas (CBCST) is searching for a Chief Development Officer. Based in San Antonio, the CBCST’s mission is to foster healing for grieving youth, their families and the community through peer support programs, counseling, training, education and outreach. It is the only provider of free, open-ended grief support programs for children, teens and young adults in San Antonio and South Texas.
The Chief Development Officer is responsible for assisting the CEO and Board in raising almost $1,000,000 annually through annual giving, special events and foundation grants. Part of the Center’s senior staff, the Chief Development Officer will supervise the Volunteer Coordinator, the Cultivation and Stewardship Specialist and the Grants and Database Manager.
Essential duties and responsibilities of the Chief Development Officer are to:
- Develop, implement, and lead a broad-based fundraising plan include major gifts, endowment gifts, corporate and foundation support, special events, and annual fund.
- Establish and maintain relationships with individuals, foundations and corporate donors.
- Ensure timely acknowledgement of all gifts as well as oversee the database.
- Work with the ED in researching and writing grants to charitable foundations and maintain regular contact with foundation staff and trust officers.
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills with exemplary work ethic, diplomacy, positive attitude, flexibility, conscientiousness, and energy to work effectively with highly motivated volunteers and staff.
- Work collaboratively and productively with staff and volunteers.
- Supervise the Volunteer Coordinator overseeing recruitment of volunteers,
- Supervise the full-time Cultivation and Stewardship Specialist and the part-time Grants and Database Manager,
- Serve as a liaison with the Board Development committee.
- Oversee an appropriate planned giving program.
- Supervise the planning and execution of fundraising events and donor recognition.
- Recruit outside groups planning events benefiting CBCST. Assign liaison role with outside groups as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Experience in public relations and marketing is desired. Ability to work under strict time constraints with short deadlines under stressful conditions.
- Minimum of 5 years comprehensive experience in the fundraising profession.
- Demonstrated track record in essential development skills: annual fund, direct mail, major gifts, face-to-face asks, foundation research and grant writing.
- Ability to work with diverse staff and volunteer committees.
- Management experience.
- Knowledge of social media tools for both marketing and fundraising purposes.
- Past experience with overseeing large scale fundraising events.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel and donor management software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Mathematical skills necessary for preparing budgets, analyzing financial reports, projecting revenues and expenses, and reviewing grant reports.
- Experience working with Board committees and volunteer committees.
